Building Your Brand Around the Product
Manufacturing is only part of a private label project. The decisions below shape how your cologne reads on the shelf, and they are made in this order because each one narrows the next.
1. Fragrance direction
Before any sample is prepared, we agree on a direction: who the product is for, which channel it sells through, and what the scent should signal. You can select from our existing fragrance library, or we can develop a custom signature scent. We produce classic and contemporary cologne profiles.
2. Bottle and cap matching
Glass and plastic follow different minimums, so the bottle decision changes your entry cost. See cologne bottles for the available moulds.
3. Label and box
A label is not only design. Ingredient declaration, warnings, batch number and volume are regulated, and the requirements change with your destination market. Designing around those rules from the start prevents a reprint later. See packaging & brand design for the full process.
4. Sample approval
Nothing goes into production without your written approval. Fragrance, bottle, cap, label and box are all confirmed from a physical sample first — see the sampling process.

5. Planning your first collection
The minimum order quantity for cologne is 1,000 units in glass bottles or 2,000 units in plastic bottles. Many brands start with a single scent in one bottle format and add a second size once the first run sells through.
Cologne is the most common corporate and promotional gift format in this category, which makes label and box design carry as much weight as the fragrance itself.

Planning Your Private Label Project
How do I plan my first collection?
Start from the sales channel, not the product. Decide where the product will be sold, then choose one fragrance direction that fits that audience, then pick the bottle. Most first collections are one or two fragrances in a single bottle format — enough to test the market without carrying stock across many variants.
How many fragrances should I start with?
One or two. Every additional fragrance is a separate minimum order quantity, so five scents means five separate minimums. Starting narrow and scaling the one that sells carries far less risk than launching a wide range at once.
How long does the sampling process take?
Sampling depends mainly on how quickly you evaluate and respond. The process runs brief, fragrance selection, sample preparation, evaluation, revision and approval. Production starts only after your written sample approval, and standard products are then produced in approximately 4–6 weeks.
When does a custom fragrance make sense?
A custom formula makes sense when the scent itself is the brand — a signature hotel scent, a distinctive retail identity, or a product you intend to build a range around. For a first collection, selecting from our existing fragrance library is faster and lets you reach the market sooner. Custom development is a separate R&D process quoted per project.
How to Start a Cologne Brand
Cologne is a lower-cost entry into fragrance than perfume, and the commercial logic is different. The concentration is lighter, the unit price is lower and the product sells in volume — which means packaging and channel decisions carry more weight than they do at the premium end.
The decisions, in order
- Channel first. Corporate gifting, retail, hospitality amenity and promotional supply each want a different bottle size and presentation. Decide this before anything else.
- Glass or plastic. This is not only an aesthetic choice — it changes your entry cost. Glass carries a 1,000-unit minimum per bottle model; plastic is 2,000. If you want to start small, glass is in practice the only route.
- Fragrance direction. Classic citrus-led profiles remain the volume seller; contemporary compositions work for retail brands wanting to differentiate.
- Label and box. In corporate and gifting channels the packaging often decides the sale, so budget for it rather than treating it as a finishing touch.
- First run. One fragrance in one bottle format. Add a second size once the first sells through.
What makes a cologne brand work
The most common mistake is launching too wide: several scents across several bottle formats, each one its own minimum. A brand starting with a single scent in a single glass bottle commits to 1,000 units and learns what the market wants before spending again. Reorders reproduce the same alcohol strength, the same fragrance ratio and the same packaging, because every batch is recorded.
See cologne bottle models to pick by code, or the sampling process for how the scent decision is made.
Other Product Groups
Most brands start with one group and widen the range once they have sales data. These are the other lines we manufacture under your brand:
- Perfume — the core product for most brands
- Room Fragrance — ambient scenting for hotels and retail
- Scented Candle — the lowest entry threshold at 500 units
- Car Fragrance — a common second product line
- Roll-On Perfume Oil — the alcohol-free alternative
